FILM SEEN, BOOKS READ, ODDITIES ACCRUED

La Roue

Abel Gance, 1923. It took me two months to watch this 4.5 hour film. Gance uses the camera as an instrument and the result is full of innovation. Yet you could shave an hour off this film and I don’t think anything would be lost. The last hour is the most rewarding, as old man Sisif finally finds contentment high in the mountains.
